Requirements
Mac OS X 10.1 or above.
Description
If you haven't been looking at downloads for the Mac lately, then you really may
be missing out on some incredible software finds these days. One gem is a program
called StarfishX (SFX). This program does for your desktop pattern what iTunes visual
display does for your music. It will bring your backgrounds to life. You can always
put the picture of the family or that far-away vacation hideaway on your desktop,
but then comes SFX.
SFX creates detailed JPEG or TIFF image files reminiscent of the background patterns
that comes standard with Mac OS X, except you can create unique patterns every day,
or every hour, or every minute. The best part is that you will get a fantastic visual
surprise every time this program generates a new background. This program will turn
your Mac into a real life Picasso!
Features
SFX boasts some strong customization for your Mac, so you can specify screen
size and arrangement. Additionally, you can choose a specific palette or create your
own. You can select options to have SFX create a new pattern upon launch, and as
often as you like.
Some other unique features are using the Velocity Engine of the G4 processor, and
support for Multiple processors. Finally, so that you don't lose that wonderful art
work, you can save up to 500 images that you can scroll through and select. This
program is simply one program that will be the envy of your PC friends.
The only thing that could really make this program even better would be a way to
export images as smaller files to the web for sharing, since I believe that people
would really enjoy seeing these images as ART.
At the bottom of this review are a few examples of the program's output.
